Review: Fish-Boy

Fish-Boy is a children’s story from the Eskimo people of North America that has been translated into English and beautifully illustrated. This story has the feel of a tribal story as opposed to Aesop’s Fables or Grimm’s Fairytales. In many of those types of stories, there is an underlying (or overt) moral to the story calling the reader into action. This one didn’t have that as much. The age on this would be for an older child (probably older than 10), so the lifespan on understandability and desire to read is a very short window of a couple of years (max).

However, the story was enjoyable. The illustrations we beautiful and relatable. I loved that the images played more of a role in the story than to be character illustrations or scenery. In this storybook, the images did those things, but also, in some cases, provided the space for the text to lay.

Overall, I thought it was a cute read!
